i just ate haggis.

Yes, that title is true. I can't believe I did it. It was quite strange. I couldn't think too much about what I was eating. I only had one bite, but honestly it didn't taste bad. But my friends were disgusted and then they got me thinking about what I just ate and I couldn't do it anymore. The texture was a bit hard to ignore too so I'm not sure I could've had much more anyways. I had some neeps too. I don't really know what they are, but I think it was just potatoes with carrots and maybe some other stuff. It was decided that the Scottish just stick their food in the blender then eat it. Because we all know what haggis is [if you don't, you probably don't want to] and neeps was all mashed potato-y. So I just looked up what neeps are and apparently they're turnips? Maybe what I ate was neeps and tatties [potatoes] because it was definitely like mashed potatoes. It did taste a little odd but I attributed that to the spices. Interesting.
Well that was my Burns Night adventure, eating haggis and other weird traditional Scottish foods. I didn't get to do any ceilidh dancing, but I did see a 'flash mob' of ceilidh dancers today. I put flash mob in quotes because it wasn't really; it was more like a gathering and then they all got into position and the music started. I knew it was happening too because when I was looking up things to do for Burns Night, it came up on some website. I watched one dance; it looked like fun but everyone was way too intense and ceilidh's really aren't flash mob dances so I didn't join in. Plus I didn't know the steps. It also was getting cold and windy. Hah. Classic Scotland. It's said the temperature has been 50 all day, but it was warmest this morning when I went to breakfast. As the day went on it got colder and even rained a little. So far the rain hasn't been bad. I'm totally fine with that.
Today was a good day. Oh I forgot to mention, I met this girl from Baylor today who's studying here the whole year, but now trying to transfer here for coffee/warm drinks. She was pretty cool. We're going to try to go to church together on Sunday so that should be good.
Welp, over and out mates. Cheers. [Because that's how Scottish people end conversations and such. or as my History of Art tutor said.."Good day my dears" or something to that effect. All I remember is that he called us his dears. Hilarious.]

  1. Elizabeth said she enjoyed getting to meet you and have coffee. I told her she should take you out one night so you can meet some Scottish friends of hers. Maybe even your future husband! Ehhhh?!?!!!

  2. I'm impressed you tried haggis. I'm not sure I want to when I come to visit. I think I could handle the neeps though. Glad you met Elizabeth too.
