More strange things I'm discovering in Edinburgh.
Lemonade means carbonated lemon flavored drink..think 7-up or Sprite. I don't know if the kind of drink we call lemonade exists here...a rather unfortunate discovery.
Everyone walks really fast. I wonder why? It's so cold and windy out; who wants to spend time outside freezing? I've picked up my pace considerable. No more lollygagging for me.
When it rains, umbrellas are minimal. The wind will turn them inside out. It almost happened to me. It's never been too bad that I've gotten soaked without an umbrella; I usually am almost to my destination when it starts.
Throwing up the peace sign is offensive. Something to do with the French cutting off the Englishmen's bow shooting fingers in some war and the Englishmen would flash their 'peace sign' to the enemy showing they still had their fingers like haha you can't get me.
Several words/phrases I will probably start incorporating in daily conversation: wee, good laugh, loo, cheers
Also have to remember, even though I'm in college, and obviously would be over 18 to be in college in the US, the drinking age is 18 here and you can start uni at 17, so showing your student ID doesn't cut it at all pubs. Needless to say, I still got a free hamburger albeit a day later than I wanted it. It wasn't very good either.
Someone I met that was Scottish told me the other day, that they love American accents. What? Cool. Personally I think the Scottish or British accent is way more interesting, but I'll take it. The word "chill" and any variant of that is also very American.
I bought some Ritz crackers at the grocery store. They didn't come in sleeves, just one big container thing. I ate peanut butter with them and it was delicious.
I might turn into a banana or an apple because that's literally the only fresh fruit they serve here.
It really isn't much warmer inside. It'll feel warm when you get in from being outside, but wait a bit and you'll be cold again.
Always estimate more time to get places because you'll probably get lost. And by you I mean me. I'm purposely leaving early for my History of Art class so I can hopefully get a seat and then have people sit next to me and I'll make friends. Oh, I know, I'm awesome.
Since I haven't done this since the first post...
Prayer requests:
That I'll make more friends to hang out with and go adventuring with.
That I will get plugged in well with that Christian Society thing.
That I'll remain positive about the way teaching/learning is done here.
That learning the bagpipes won't be too difficult; I want to really enjoy that class.
That the people on my hall won't bang on my door at 3:30 in the morning when they come back from clubbing, drunk.
That I'll get plenty of sleep.
